caveat emptor

Latin for, "let the buyer beware." It means that it is the purchaser's, not the seller's responsibility to investigate the worth and worthiness of the product or service he or she is buying.

cellular manufacturing

A manufacturing plant (or subsection of a plant) in which machines, workbenches and processes are organized in distinct work areas ("cells") that are arranged such that work can move quickly and easily from one to the next through as it progresses through to finished goods. Each cell may have responsibility for performing a particular distinct process or making a particular subassembly. All the tools, materials and machinery necessary to perform the work assigned to a cell are close by to increase efficiency and co-workers are also in close proximity to facilitate rapid, easy feedback and collaboration.

chief executive officer
The executive responsible for a company's operation. Abbreviated as CEO. The same person often also holds the title of president and may also be chairman of the board. Where the company also has a chief operating officer, that person is responsible for the day-to-day operations while the CEO takes a broader perspective.

chief financial officer
The executive responsible for establishing and managing the organization's financial planning, controls and accounting. Abbreviated as CFO.

The executive responsible for setting strategy and managing information technology hardware, software and services within a company and ensuring that they help fulfill the organization's objectives. Abbreviated as CIO.
